(Reports to the Governing Board)
The Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) helps build strong relations between the staff and the congregation by advocating for a healthy work environment and establishing employee policies, procedures, and benefits.
Specifically, the SPRC:
- Encourages and supports the pastors, staff and their families. Discussions include the personnel conditions and issues that affect the congregation’s total ministry, including healthy life-work balance. It helps the staff set priorities.
- Recommends needed staff positions and develops and approves written job descriptions and titles for staff.
- Recommends compensation, travel, housing, benefits and other financial matters.
- Recommends a written statement of policy and procedures for hiring, evaluating, promoting, retiring, and dismissing staff members who are not subject to episcopal appointment.
- Meets with the district superintendent in an advisory capacity related to clergy leadership selection.
- Provides an annual evaluation of the Senior Pastor and Executive Director for ongoing effective ministry.
- Enlists, evaluates, and annually recommends candidates for professional ministry to the charge conference.
Individuals best suited to this committee will have one or more of the following spiritual gifts: encouragement, wisdom, discernment, administration, shepherding, helping, servanthood and leadership.
Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful: human relations, personnel management, organizational administration, communications, and law. Ideal lay member candidates will have demonstrated these gifts and skills in other roles in the church, prior to their assignment on SPRC.

Pat Burley, Chair
Pat and his wife Anne have two grown children and three grandchildren. As a member of St. Luke’s for the past 24 years he has been involved in a number of activities. Pat currently serves as the Chair for Staff Parish Relations Committee and is a member of the Governing Board. Pat is the President/CEO of Meridian Investment Advisors, Inc. and serves on other non-for profit boards. He enjoys golf, sports and traveling.
Charles has been at St. Luke's since 2012, when he attended for the first time on Christmas Eve. He and his wife Jeanna have four children and he is the lucky grandfather to five grandchildren. Charles has been active on our Social Justice Committee and is a member of the New Perspectives Sunday school class. He has also participated in the Bridges Out of Poverty simulation exercise. He considers himself loosely "retired" after having served as a United Methodist and Church of the Brethren pastor and as a chaplain for the Indiana Department of Corrections for many years. He keeps busy cheering for his favorite local teams, the Colts, Pacers, Indy Eleven and Indy Fuel as well as the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers. He also has a 35 year-old hobby of collecting sports cards.
Lynn is President of Lynn Black Education Solutions, LLC, which focuses on School Leadership and Board Training and Development. At St. Luke’s, he has hosted the World Religions Sunday School class, in addition to ushering and participation in work projects, such as Habitat for Humanity.
Missy is the Gift Planning Director for the American Red Cross. At St. Luke’s, she taught Sunday School for five years and is a small group leader for Youth Confirmation. She has also served on the Endowment and Stewardship Committee.
Emily is the Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Client Relations at Bethany Fellows. In addition to SPRC, she has been active in leadership on the Youth Ministry Commission.
Steve, his wife Susan and their three daughters have been members of St. Luke's since 2004. Most of his involvement in the church has been with the Music and Youth Ministries, small groups and administrative committees. Music and family are also worked into most of his hobbies. He is a native of Indianapolis and skillfully straddles the IU/Purdue divide, having received degrees from both schools. His career has been primarily focused on the banking industry. He is currently Senior Vice President, Director of Human Resources for First Merchants Bank and has held various management, training and sales roles throughout his career.
Kim has been worshiping with her family at St Luke’s for the last five years. She and her husband stay very busy with their two elementary-aged children, Hank and Ella. Kim holds a masters degree in Healthcare Administration and works as the Director of Human Resources for Indiana Donor Network, She is honored to use that professional knowledge in serving the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
Heidi has been a member of St. Luke's for over 11 years. She has a middle school aged daughter and especially appreciates the open nature of the church. Heidi’s background in HR makes her a perfect fit for our Staff Parish Relations committee. She has spent the last 18 years of her career at Eli Lilly and Company, holding roles in recruiting, business partnering, HR operations, six sigma and an OUS role in Ireland.
Ron and his wife, Tara-Lynne, have been at St. Luke’s since 1994 when they were married. They are the parents of 2 daughters, Katie and Caroline who are now in college. Ron’s involvement over the years has included Stephen Ministry, Youth Group, College Care ministry, Starting Point, St. Luke's service day and many other one-off activities. Ron works in Eli Lilly Global Marketing Operations and enjoys getting used to being an empty-nester, reading, staying active and doing anything outdoors.
Dr. Larry Stevens has been a part of St. Luke's since 1986. Carver McGriff performed his marriage to his wife Jilaine in 1988 and both their daughter and son were baptized here a few years later. He has been a regular participant in the combined St. Luke’s/Timmy Global Health Foundation effort to support the medical mission at the Haitian Academy Medical School & Clinic, which has now developed into the Alpha Omega Clinic in Haiti. As a surgeon, Larry is on the Boards of Directors for IU Health North Hospital and IU Health Physicians. His hobbies include spending time in Sanibel with his wife & family, cycling, boating, fishing, pickleball and reading.
